Why didn’t I try this sooner?!!

Ever ask yourself this question after finally taking action on something you've been wanting to do for a while?

I have always wanted to try making our own clean and simple, dairy free, gluten free ice cream because the options to purchase this are 1) limited, 2) spendy, and 3) not always accessible. Having moved to Maui, where we are no longer able to access our beloved Frankie and Jo's in Seattle (waaa!!!), I went on a hunt to see what our options were for quality ice cream in this rather warm climate.

Sadly, there wasn't anything I felt really great about our family having as a special treat. Yes, the grocery store carries a few DF/GF options but they're almost $10/pint after tax and filled with tons of refined sugar, artificial stuff, and yucky gums. Since I wasn't satisfied with that I finally broke down and got this ice cream maker (now on sale for under $100!), searched up on Pinterest for paleo, DF/GF ice cream recipes, and voila! The kids and I made our first batch and the family started feasting on it in less than 30 min! Omg, was it delish, and SO easy... I mean SO, SO easy!!!

Making your own homemade ice cream allows you to choose your own quality ingredients, eliminate what you don't want, experiment and come up with your own concoctions, and save SO much money! What made this even sweeter ;) was that we already had most of the ingredients on hand and one batch fed our family of 4, with leftovers to spare. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it, too?! When you can make it yourself, you totally can :D

Ughh, why didn't I do this SO much sooner?!!!!

With ingredients like this clean organic coconut milk, raw cacao powder, raw honey, and organic chunky peanut butter (the only kind of nut butter our boys like these days), I felt good about feeding my family more of a nutrient dense type of treat loaded with healthy fats and protein, with no artificial gunk or refined sugar!

Next on my list of things to try making (someday) are dairy free, gluten free ice cream cones. Ha! We just found these cones at our local Whole Foods store… thankful they had this option!

So far, we've made this chocolate peanut butter ice cream (modified) and roasted strawberry balsamic basil ice cream. The first one was flipping amazing, and to my surprise, the whole family (boys included) liked the second one!

If you already make your own, what concoctions have you made so far???
